Rising Damp
Rising damp is caused when surrounding clays and soils are absorbed into the masonry components of a building’s structure by capillary action, and move upwards through the building.
MOULD & CONDENSATION
Condensation arises because warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. The presence of condensation will be reduced in direct proportion to the increased temperature of the internal walls.
Drainage
A drain is constructed terminating in a drainage pit equipped with a sump pump or alternatively to a local storm water outlet. Poor or non-existent drainage can lead to excessive amounts of moisture reaching the sub-floor environs of the house.
Sub-floor repair
Timber floors that bounce or creak under tread may indicate the support timbers have been damaged as a result of continuous exposure to sub-floor dampness.
